Veridian Jade

Hetian Jade — Authentic Natural Nephrite

The classic Chinese jade, loved for its toughness and soft, oily glow. Every piece we sell is natural Type A nephrite, hand-selected and certified, from an authorized China Gold (中国黄金) partner.

What is Hetian jade?

Hetian jade is a fine nephrite — one of the two true jades (the other being jadeite). Its tightly interlocked fibrous structure makes it remarkably tough, while the best material has a warm, almost oily lustre that collectors prize above a glassy shine.

The most celebrated grade is mutton-fat (yangzhi) jade: a warm, even white that glows softly when backlit.

Where ours comes from

We carry premium nephrite from several classic sources — each with its own character:

  • Xinjiang / Hetian — the historic benchmark for fine white nephrite.
  • Russian — bright, dense material, excellent whites and greens.
  • Qinghai — translucent, clear-toned nephrite, great value.

All natural, untreated, and certified Type A. Read our buyer's checklist before you choose.

Hetian jade FAQ

What is Hetian jade?

Hetian jade is a premium nephrite jade, historically from the Hetian (Khotan) region of Xinjiang. Today the term is also used for fine nephrite of similar quality from Russia, Qinghai and elsewhere. It is prized for its tough structure and soft, oily lustre.

Is Hetian jade the same as jadeite?

No. Hetian jade is nephrite, a different mineral from jadeite. Nephrite is exceptionally tough and known for an oily lustre; jadeite is rarer and famous for vivid 'imperial' green. Both are genuine jade.

How can I tell if Hetian jade is real?

Look for a fine, dense texture and a warm, oily (not glassy) lustre, and always ask for a certificate confirming it is natural Type A nephrite. We provide certification with our pieces.

What drives the price of Hetian jade?

Texture and 'oiliness' come first, then colour evenness, purity, translucency, size and workmanship. See our Hetian jade price guide for the full checklist.
